Our mission & vision

The Cyfarthfa Foundation - a registered charity working in partnership with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council - is working on the detailed planning, proposals and advocacy for the necessary funds to support the development of Cyfarthfa.

Donating to the Cyfarthfa Foundation is an investment in the future of a vital piece of Welsh history. Your support will help us preserve and transform Cyfarthfa Castle and Park, ensuring it remains a hub of culture, education, and community for generations to come. You can donate here

Our aims focus across four key areas:

Castle development: Restoring the Grade I listed Cyfarthfa Castle to become a world-class museum, art gallery, and cultural attraction.

Policy and advocacy: Championing the site’s global and national significance with governments, politicians, stakeholders, trusts, foundations, patrons and other organisations and individuals.

Placemaking and park: Enhancing the wider park with new leisure, recreation, and educational opportunities to attract more visitors and create added value for the local community.

Community and wellbeing: Creating programs and events that connect people with Cyfarthfa's rich heritage and cultural assets.

Your donation goes directly to funding the Cyfarthfa Foundation’s critical work, helping us secure Cyfarthfa's future. It will support our work to:

Restore Cyfarthfa Castle: Your contribution helps us raise the funds needed to restore this historic building
Deliver Community Activities: We're developing new events, programmes, and public forums to increase visitor engagement, grow audiences and create a vibrant destination for people to connect with the culture and heritage of Cyfarthfa.
Improve the Park: Progressing new small scale capital projects, activities and improvements to the park to enhance the visitor experience.

Our work in action

We're already making a tangible impact. Our recent projects include:

Branding and Signage: We have developed a new strategy to improve navigation, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience throughout Cyfarthfa Park. Phase one of new signage has been installed across the park.
Community Activities: We've organised a range of popular free-to-attend community events, including seasonal activities for Easter, Halloween and Christmas, in partnership with other organisations across the park.
