The Cyfarthfa Foundation works in partnership with Merthyr's Roots and the Education Team at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery to deliver educational workshops to schools. These workshops highlight how Cyfarthfa was shaped by the people of Merthyr and the natural world and emphasise the importance of Cyfarthfa to Wales and beyond. Recent educational projects have included:
Education
An education programme for Year 4 classes across 17 primary schools (685 children) in Merthyr, and engagement with 120 students from The College Merthyr Tydfil, all of whom visited Cyfarthfa. The education programme was independently evaluated by a consultant and received a very positive response: “This educational package is, in my view, an excellent example of the kind of activities that the new Curriculum for Wales (CfW) is encouraging heritage institutions to offer their local school audience.”
Celebrating National Picnic Week by pupils spending time outdoors in the natural environment to enjoy lawn games, nature-based activities and a picnic.
Students from The College Merthyr Tydfil created and curated exhibitions of artwork inspired by Cyfarthfa’s history.
We supported students at Pen-y-Dre School taking part in Inktober with arts materials.
